   UP IN THE AIR

Congratulations to Jason Reitman, Sheldon Turner and especially Walter Kim (the author).  The Scripter is the one award that recognizes both the screenwriters of adapted screenplays AND the original author of the source material from which it was taken.

Up in the Air is also the favorite to take the WGA in a couple of weeks as well as the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.

USC Scripter Nominees Announced

The USC Libraries announce their nominees in honor of the Adapted Screenplays and their writers, along with the original author.

The movie gaining a ton of steam is District 9, picking up both a Scripter nomination today as well as a Producers Guild nomination.  Now I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but it looks like it was a good move to slot District 9 into my predictions for Oscars Adapted Screenplay last week, as well as moving the film into the top 10 for Best Picture.  The odds of my longshot coming true are growing by the minute!!

This is such great news… but will Oscar follow?

Here are the USC Scripter Nominees:

Crazy Heart – Fox Searchlight Pictures
Scott Cooper, screenwriter
Thomas Cobb, author

District 9 – Tri-Star Pictures
Neill Blomkamp, screenwriter and author
Terri Tatchell, screenwriter

An Education – Sony Pictures Classics
Nick Hornby, screenwriter
Lynn Barber, author

Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire – Lionsgate
Geoffrey Fletcher, screenwriter
Sapphire, author

Up in the Air – Paramount Pictures
Jason Reitman, screenwriter
Sheldon Turner, screenwriter
Walter Kirn, author

For Your Consideration

One of my favorite, if not the favorite, movie of the year (so far) is Marc Webb’s hilarious yet soberingly true (500) Days of Summer.  There is not a single part of this film that I did not love.  I am hoping that as we enter the awards season, it is not forgotten.  Therefore, I humbly submit for your consideration, Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber for Best Original Screenplay.
